Sustainable Agriculture Course
Cross-disciplinary curriculum drawing from the wide range of expertise.
Currently, no overarching course exists at Cal Poly that comprehensively addresses the topic of sustainable agriculture. In fall 2012, the Center received funding to coordinate the establishment of a sustainable agriculture course to serve as a foundational curriculum for those seeking to understand the complexities of the subject. The plan is to create a cross-disciplinary curriculum drawing from the wide range of expertise within the college that addresses environmental, agricultural, societal and economic aspects. Our goal is that the course will be offered as an upper-division general education course available to all majors, and will eventually be integrated into the core curriculum of the Sustainable Agriculture Minor. The sustainable agriculture lecture class will empower a wide cross-section of students with the perspective of sustainability and inspire them to pursue continued education in the arts and science of agriculture.
