Organic Farm

Cal Poly Ogranic Farm

The Cal Poly Organic Farm consists of approximately 11 CCOF certified organic acres of land used for vegetable and fruit production, which includes the original 'Student Experimental Farm' and 2 other parcels. Largely student managed, the Organic Farm is home to a variety of programs, including Cal Poly’s annual Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Program, which served 300 subscribing members in 2007. (Members receive a box of fresh, organic produce grown by students and community members each week.)

The Organic Farm is primarily an educational site. Students enroll to study at the farm through the Organic Enterprise (CRSC 203), which is offered each term for 2-4 units of credit. Students may also enroll in the annual Organic Agriculture lecture class (AG 315), which features lab sections taught at the Organic Farm. Additionally, the farm hosts periodic workshops and seminars covering a wide range of issues including composting, natural pest control, native plants, Biointensive agriculture and Permaculture design. Students, staff and community are welcome to volunteer for work activities or to enjoy the farm as a leisure activity. Everyone is welcome to come enjoy the farm during regular business hours.

Directions to the Organic Farm:

Take the Highland Drive entrance into Cal Poly from Route 1. At your first cross street, turn left onto Mount Bishop Road. After about 1/4 mile, the road veers to the left. Bear RIGHT onto the dirt road to the right of the small Vet clinic. Go about 1/2 mile (past the Rodeo Unit) straight up to the top of the hill. The Organic Farm is on the right, across from the Compost Unit. Parking at the Farm requires a parking permit on weekdays only. You may purchase a daily permit at the campus entrance.

Additional Organic Farm acreage is located in Field C-34 across the street from the Dairy Unit, and in Field 25 along Route 1.
