Greetings form Cal Poly! Fall has brought a bounty of opportunities for learning – keeping us more than busy here. Below, please find reminders for our upcoming events:
1. MICHAEL POLLAN VISIT TO CAL POLY: OCT 15
Our annual fundraiser dinner on October 14 has SOLD OUT, but please join us for FREE public events on campus on Thursday, OCTOBER 15 starting with a ‘Sustainability Fair’ on the plaza outside the PAC (Performing Arts Center) from 10 AM to 2 PM featuring scores of booths for campus and community organizations involved in agriculture and sustainability! This will be followed by a very special “CONVERSATION WITH MICHAEL POLLAN,” a panel presentation from 11 AM – 12:30 PM featuring Mr. Pollan, Dr. Gary Smith of Colorado State University, and Myra Goodman of Earthbound Farm. This will be a rare opportunity to hear three leading thinkers on food and agricultural issues share their diverse perspectives on opportunities and challenges in working towards a more sustainable food and fiber future. Seating for the presentation will be limited and offered on a first come first served basis. Details can be found at:

2. SPECIAL LECTURE ON STANDARD-BRED POULTRY TOMORROW: OCT 7
A free presentation on breeding and raising heritage poultry will be given WED., OCTOBER 7 from 7-9 PM at the Cal Poly Crops Unit. Poultry judge and enthusiast, Jim Adkins, will give an overview of this fascinating topic as prelude to his Continuing Ed course in November. Details at:

3. ANNUAL PEST MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE: DEC 4-5
The agenda has been set for our 8th annual offering of the Sustainable Agricultural Pest Management Conference in San Luis Obispo December 4-5. Registration is now open. Please see details at:

4. ‘HANDS ON HEALTH’ SYMPOSIUM TO BE HELD OCT 30-13
On October 30 and 31, 2009, the First Annual HANDS on Health collaborative event invites members from the entire community to join together for two days of festivities featuring health in an interactive, fun and entertaining atmosphere. This regional event is expected to bring together more than 5,000 participants over the course of the symposium's two days. There will be something for everyone to learn about health, diet, nutrition and exercise! Details can be found on the C.O.P.E. website:
